With a commitment to help build a peaceful and just society characterised by mutual respect among fellow human beings, QK Ahmad Foundations (QKAF) official journey as a non-profit ceremonially took off on 05 July 2018.
To mark this, an inauguration ceremony was arranged at PKSF Bhaban where two young change-makers were honoured with QK Ahmad Foundation Awards for their outstanding contributions to socio-economic development at the grassroots.
Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, MP, Honourable Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad, graced the event as the Chief Guest. He said the Foundation, named after eminent economist Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, will hopefully make a mark in upholding and patronising positive change initiatives, particularly those aimed at inclusive development of the disadvantaged groups and instilling finer values among the youths on the country.
In the welcome remarks, QKAF General Secretary Dr Qazi Rushdy Ahmad highlighted the duties and responsibilities of the privileged people to stand beside the underprivileged ones in the society. “It is that sense of duties and responsibilities that will shape the Foundation’s activities in the days ahead.
Brac Vice Chairperson Dr Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, PKSF Managing Director Mr Md Abdul Karim, Vice Chancellor of Green University Professor Dr Golam Samdani Fakir, and Chief Executive Officer of Channel-24 Maj Gen (Retd) Jiban Kanai Das, among others, spoke at the programme. QKAF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzman Ahmad gave the vote of thanks at the end.
Also at the programme, QK Ahmad Foundation Awards were handed over to Ms Kaniz Fatima Chhanda and Mr Muhammad Ariful Forqan. Ms Chhanda runs an initiative -- School of Cycling: Femina -- to encourage women to ride bicycles as means of ensuring their independence and earning due dignity in society. Mr Forqan, on the other hand, produces and distributes low-cost sanitary napkins among poor working women and school-going adolescent girls.
