Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad is a Bangladeshi economist, development thinker and activist. He was active in promoting Bangladesh’s nationalist aspirations during the 1960s and worked in the Planning Cell of Bangladesh Government-in-exile during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
He has received Ekushey Padak 2009 and Independence Award 2019, the highest Bangladesh National Civilian Award, presented by the Government of Bangladesh. He has also been awarded the National Environment Award 2019, presented by the Government of Bangladesh. He has also received the award of the Nobel Peace Prize, as a member of the team, for his contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007. In addition to these, he has received many more dignified awards at home and abroad. His publications and research and other works include 38 books and over 250 articles/research reports and papers at home and abroad.
Currently, Dr QK Ahmad is the Chairman of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) as well as the Dhaka School of Economics. He is the Founding Chairman of Bangladesh Unnayan Parishad (BUP), the multidisciplinary research organization. In the past, he was also the President of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) and a former Research Director at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS).
He has dedicated his entire life to human development, sustainable development, rural development, gender issues, policy planning, socially inclusive development, poverty alleviation, employment generation and food security, climate change impact and adaptation, water management and regional cooperation. He has donated his earnings for his work to grants for education and rural development. He is the epitome of altruism.
